GROUP LEADER

2010 ANCIENT DNA TRAINING PROGRAM

The Paleo-DNA Laboratory at Lakehead University is the only facility in the world that offers a training program in extraction, amplification, sequencing and analysis of ancient nucleic acids (aDNA).

Currently, we seek qualified leadership-oriented individuals to fill the positions of GROUP LEADER during the 2010 Ancient DNA Training Program.  Under the supervision of the Technical Manager, Group Leaders will conduct practical laboratory sessions each afternoon Monday to Friday for the duration of the Ancient DNA Training Program. Responsibilities include practical laboratory equipment and reagent set-up each day, direct student supervision within the laboratory including methodological training and guidance, adherence to health and safety regulations and maintaining the cleanliness of laboratory work areas. 

Qualifications include educational instruction in the field of Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry or Bio-Molecular Science along with practical experience in a laboratory setting.  The ideal candidate must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to work well as a communicative member of a team.  The ability to make decisions, meet deadlines and perform well under pressure is essential.   Completion of the Ancient DNA Training Program is definitely an asset.
